The Sustainability Learning Centre is an innovative and visionary purpose built DECYP field study centre which offers engaging education programs both on and off site.
It is the first building in Tasmania to be awarded a 6 star accreditation from the Australian Green Building Council.
Our specialist teachers offer programs for learners from birth to Year 12. These programs align with the Australian Curriculum V9 and the revised Early Years Learning Framework plus reference the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Tasmania’s Youth and Wellbeing Strategy.
Our programs are for learners state-wide, including:
- Secondary schools and colleges (learners in years 7 – 12)
- Primary schools
- Early Years classes
- Launching into Learning groups
- VET classes
- Early Childhood Education and Care services
- Family Day Care
- Home schooling families.
In support of the Tasmanian Youth and Wellbeing Strategy, we have developed an Outdoor Classroom Immersion Program. This inspires and supports educators to establish outdoor learning in and around their schools. The program forms part of an ongoing responsive learning cycle.
From the wellbeing strategy:
Children and young people are supported to learn about their world through connection to nature and the outdoors.
The Learning on Country program helps all learners gain insights into the land and sustainability practices of Tasmania’s First People. Educators are encouraged to become culturally responsive.
From the wellbeing strategy:
Having a positive sense of culture and identity
Children and young people can connect to nature. They are supported to identify their core values about the environment as part of their culture and identity.
